Spend nine days (and nine nights) at Tenuta di Spannocchia, a historic agricultural estate in the heart of Tuscany, practicing cello in a friendly and collegial atmosphere. Enjoy spectacular scenery, local wine and traditional Tuscan meals prepared using organic ingredients fresh from the farm. Return home inspired and relaxed! Mornings are devoted to musical study and include time for individual practice, private lessons, group classes and discussions and ensemble rehearsals. Classes will focus on fundamental technique and musical interpretation and will be tailored to meet the needs of the participants. Participants may range in level from beginning to advanced. Participation in informal pre-dinner concerts is optional. Depending on schedule, the group may attend a chamber music concert of the Chigiana Academy (Siena.) Afternoons are spent enjoying Spannocchia and the surrounding countryside. One day will be spent visiting Florence. Saturday afternoon and evening will be spent in Siena. 2012 tentative itinerary includes a visit to the Abbey of Monte Oliveto Maggiore and the ruins of San Galgano. Tours of Spannocchia and the gardens, Cinta Senese tastings and Italian and Tai'chi classes will be offered. Cooking classes and massage and reflexology treatments are also available at Spannocchia. The estate of Spannocchia (www.spannocchia.com) is located 22 km south of Siena, up a steep and winding road flanked by cypress trees and olive groves on a forested hilltop with sweeping views of the countryside. The sprawling estate is centered around a castle with a tower built in the 10th c. and is located on a protected ecological preserve of more than 1,000 acres. The property can be explored by a system of hiking trails. Tenuta is run by the Spannocchia Foundation, a nonprofit organization whose mission is to encourage global dialogue about sustaining cultural landscapes for future generations. Spannocchia has been featured in Bon Appetit, the Boston Globe, the LA Times and Travel and Leisure. Spannocchia hosts educational groups such as ours as well as bed and breakfast guests and farm interns. Spannocchia is a popular ecotourism and foodie destination. Workshop participants will occupy guest rooms with private baths in the Villa (main house.) The Villa rooms are furnished with antiques and have beautiful views. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served to the Music Adventure group in the Villa dining room and garden. Before dinner each evening, guests gather on the Villa Terrace to enjoy Spannocchia's own wine, the beautiful late afternoon light and other members of Spannocchia's multinational community. |
